On May 19, 2026, Birgit Nemec and Julia Holzer held a talk together at the University of Vienna on “Participatory and Collaborative Health Research”, as part of the “Health in Society” lecture series.
The full presentation and exchange are online (in German): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kirZ0ZnWrHE
What are the chances and challenges of collaborative and community-inclusive research? Birgit Nemec gives insights into patient-inclusive research as a core element of the Beyond Thalidomide project, and the different levels of collaboration with Netzwerk Duogynon, the major patient advocacy group that formed around the drug Duogynon (r) and its alleged teratogenicity in Germany and Austria. One major output, an oral history collection and repository, was developed in collaboration with Netzwerk Duogynon. In this lecture, Birgit Nemec discusses with Julia Holzer, psychologist, the research process behind as well as potential pathways for future research projects.
