Jaime Larry Benchimol holds a Bachelor's degree in History from the Institute of Human Sciences and Philosophy at Universidade Federal Fluminense (1976); a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from COPPE, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1982); a Specialization in the Restoration of Historical Monuments in Italy (1983); and a Ph.D. in History from Universidade Federal Fluminense (1995). He is a Senior Researcher at Casa de Oswaldo Cruz (COC), Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz). He served as the scientific editor of História, Ciências, Saúde — Manguinhos from 1997 to 2015, and has since been a member of the journal's Editorial Board. He teaches in the Graduate Program in the History of Science and Health at COC. His research and teaching interests focus on the History of the Life Sciences, the History of Tropical Medicine and Public Health, and Urban History.
